Spring has sprung early in Wisconsin and it sure feels good. Taxes are done and we're heading into the spring cleaning and sprucing up the home season. I like that.
Adding color to your walls is a thrifty way to refresh - or radically change - the look of your home. I network with great decorators. If you have a bigger project, I'd be happy to pass on a referral. On May 13th I've been invited to do a Decorator Open House in Waukesha with Oleander Interiors and will be showing some of my faux finishing tools & techniques. There's more info on my website.
For that special occasion there is nothing more personal than custom art. Do you know a graduate that could use a mixed media painted portrait as a gift? What about a June bride? It's not too early to start planning. And in case you forgot, I play piano for wedding services and dinner music. 'Tis the season.
Painting tip #1. Don't waste time taping everything. Yes, it takes a steady hand and practice - but the best trick is to keep a washrag handy. If you do get paint on the trim - wipe it immediately. If you wait to peel off tape or go back later for touch ups - you may find that the paint has bled underneath or started to dry and become hard to remove. Be extra careful doing ceiling lines - use a small beveled edge brush. A definite sign of an amateur paint job is sloppy edges.
